Step by step
- Dartford Crossing: pay by midnight the day after you cross. You can make a one off payment or open a pay as you go or pre-pay account.
- London Congestion Charge: check if your journey enters the zone during charging hours and pay the daily charge with TfL. Auto Pay pays it for you.
- ULEZ: check with TfL if your vehicle meets the emissions standards. If it does not, pay the daily ULEZ charge too.
- If you get a Penalty Charge Notice (PCN), pay it or challenge it through the same official service.
What you need
- Vehicle registration number
- A debit or credit card
- The PCN reference number, if you are paying or challenging a fine
Common mistakes
- Forgetting to pay the Dart Charge by midnight the day after crossing, which can lead to a fine.
- Paying through unofficial websites that add fees. TfL warns about unofficial sellers.
- Assuming that paying the Congestion Charge also covers ULEZ. They are separate charges.
