Step by step
- Create your GOV.UK One Login the first time a service asks for it, with an email address and a way to get security codes.
- If the service needs to check who you are, prove your identity with the GOV.UK One Login app, by answering security questions online or at a Post Office.
- Your identity is saved, so you do not have to prove it again for other services that use One Login.
- Sign in to your One Login to change your details or see the services you have used.
What you need
- An email address and a phone or app to receive security codes.
- Photo ID such as a UK passport, a non-UK passport with a biometric chip, a UK photocard driving licence or a UK biometric residence permit or card.
- For the app: a smartphone with a working camera and a recent operating system.
Common mistakes
- Assuming One Login works everywhere: some services (for example Universal Credit) still use their own sign-in, such as Government Gateway.
- Giving up when the app does not work with your phone or ID: you can also prove your identity with security questions online or at a Post Office.
